Living Eucharist

Leeds September 2003 006.jpgThe Gospel Acclamation on Sunday, engaging with the words of the disciples of Emmaus, reminded us of an important truth:

Alleluia, alleluia!
Lord Jesus, explain the Scriptures to us. Make our hearts burn within us as you talk to us. Alleluia!

cf.Lk24:32

When we read the Scriptures we should never seek to do so alone. This Book of the Church is something we read with the Church, in the Body of Christ. We call on the Lord to help us to hear and understand, and we seek to hear and understand with the Church.

This is not to stifle our own personal response to the Scriptures, but does help us avoid globalising the significance of our personal response, sometimes to the detriment of others.

The Lord speak to draw us into deeper communion with him and the Church. Our response should seek always to respect that intention.
