The Friday Lent sessions helping us to learn more about modern slavery have been eye-opening and deeply shocking.
To see what we’ve been looking at click here.
Often the people trapped into slavery are ‘hidden’ – even ‘hidden’ in plain sight – because obviously their abusers and exploiters do not wish to arouse suspicion. And their exploiters and abusers can in so many ways prevent those who are trapped from reaching out for help.
Sometimes we can be suspicious. But what can we do?
We don’t know enough? Maybe we fear the consequences of getting involved?
But when someone is being brutalised maybe we should fear more the consequences of NOT getting involved.
Especially when there are opportunities for us to simply raise concern with the authorities, with the assurance they will investigate and not need to involve us further…
There is a Helpline number given below, or you can report your concern, even anonymously, on the Modern Slavery Helpline using this link
